SV: Are you happy to recommend OpenLDAP to others?

Sorry if I ask a stupid question, but what is NIS/YP?

Roughly how many users do they handle in that system and how many requests
per second?

Do you know if OpenLDAP should be able to handle a base with 500.000 -
1.000.000 users and 50 - 200 requests per second? And what kind of machine
would have to run OpenLDAP in order to handle this?

The place where I last worked (a largish urban university) has pretty much
completely replaced NIS/YP with OpenLDAP. The sysadmins seem very happy
with it.
