No it's not possible to replace the default LDAP server in SIMS with
anything else.
However, the current LDAP server, near as I can tell, is really just Sun's
recompiling of UMich LDAP with the "Sun" brand name on it.

The next major version of SIMS will use the Netscape Directory server as its
LDAP server.
