The problem is that I have not found which option I should use in ldap.conf
to say NOT to use sasl when binding the ldap directory (aka the equivalent
of '-x').
There is no such option.
Consult the documentation for your pam ldap module. If you're using PADL,
consider using nss-pam-ldapd, or nssov (which is distributed with
OpenLDAP).
