I actually uses the following rpm packages, which are the original ones
delivered by Red Hat for RHEL 5.4:
cyrus-sasl-2.1.22-5.el5
cyrus-sasl-2.1.22-5.el5
cyrus-sasl-devel-2.1.22-5.el5
cyrus-sasl-lib-2.1.22-5.el5
cyrus-sasl-plain-2.1.22-5.el5
cyrus-sasl-plain-2.1.22-5.el5
cyrus-sasl-devel-2.1.22-5.el5
cyrus-sasl-lib-2.1.22-5.el5
It seems like I could update them to 2.1.23. So I'll give
it a try ...

This looks like a bug with cyrus-sasl to me. Are you doing pass
through authentication?
