Ldap_SASL_Bind (simple): error

Hii

I am uisng Openldap-2.4.7 on fedora core 7...
i hav configured my slapd.conf file n ldap.conf file...

n started the server using the comand 
/usr/local/libexec/slapd

n wen i try to perform any client operation for ex...

ldapsearch -x -b ' ' -s base '(objectclass=*)' namingContexts

i get the following error..

Ldap_sasl_bind (simple) :can't connect to the server (-1)...

Plz help ASAP
