Hello payal,

It's very nice that u want to jump again in OpenLdap.
Best way to start OpenLdap as a stand alone is to compile it manually
from source.
Get the source from OpenLdap.org
<http://www.openldap.org/software/download/>
untar it in some good location like /usr/local/src
Go in to /usr/local/src/openldap-2.2.26 and run below command.

Best doc for OpenLdap is
<http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin23/quickstart.html>
<http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin23/>

While the 2.3 Admin Guide is certainly the best available document, it's important to note that it *is* for OpenLDAP 2.3, not OpenLDAP 2.2. Since you have recommended they download OpenLDAP 2.2.26, you should point them at the OpenLDAP 2.2 Admin Guide instead. http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin22/

And of course, the *easiest* way to get a working installation is to download a CDS build from www.symas.com, as it has all the required libraries correctly integrated already. Using our builds guarantees that you're using software that is known to work, which lets you focus on your own specific data configuration and not worry about whether you specified the right libraries and flags to configure and build the code.
