problem with configure

hi,
i tried solving the problem myself a LOT, but i failed, 
please help.. read til the end of the mail, dont stop at 
reading 'berkeley 4.1' thinking its the wrong version..

what i did:
1- installed berkeleyDB 4.1
2- opened openldap 2.2.26 and typed ./configure but at the 
end it said: 
checking for Berkeley DB version match... yes
checking for Berkeley DB thread support... yes
checking Berkeley DB version for BDB backend... no
configure: error: BDB/HDB: BerkeleyDB version incompatible

3- installed berkeleyDB 4.2.52
4- opened openldap 2.2.26 and typed ./configure but at the 
end it said AGAIN: 
checking for Berkeley DB version match... yes
checking for Berkeley DB thread support... yes
checking Berkeley DB version for BDB backend... no
configure: error: BDB/HDB: BerkeleyDB version incompatible

question: is the problem that i previously installed 
berkeley 4.1? if yes, how do i remove it?
if no, what else should i do?
