This could well be a bug in back-ldap, but I wouldn't call 2.2.6 a recent
version; if you look at che changelog between 2.2.6 and 2.2.23 (the
latest) you'll see plenty of improvements and fixes adressing back-ldap. 
I suggest you first try with 2.2.23 and only if the failure persists you
report this as a bug.
