I didn't mean to infer anything like that, I was just puzzled by the
sudden race condition. I ended up using ldapadd and to add the child
entry and it was good. I did have a lot of problems with ACL's and I'm
trying to work them through myself (for the learning experience of
course).
I do have a really dumb question... the file
called /usr/local/var/openldap-data/DB_CONFIG
should that be owned by ldap:ldap or root:root or ??:??
