It's not just a matter of OpenLDAP. Look at the schema for userPassword:
if there's no SUBSTR rule, then the answer is "NO"; if there's a SUBSTR
rule, then the answer is "it depends, OpenLDAP might not implement that
specific SUBSTR rule".
