Did the client authenticate before attempting to
modify the DIT?  That's what the error text
"modifications require authentication" returned to
the reflects.

By default, slapd(8) requires authentication to
modify the directory.  See slapd.conf(5) for details
on how to disable this if desirable in your particular
situation (despite the general recommendation that the
requirement be left in pace).
