Thanks Dieter I ran the following:
./configure --prefix=PREFIX --datadir=DIR --sysconfdir --srcdir --build
--host --target --enable-bdb --enable-monitor
It then tells me to run make depend and when I do I get:
make depend
make: *** No rule to make target `depend'. Stop.
Please advise

first run ./configure --help | less
to get all avaiable flags, take your pick and run
./configure <add flags>
make depend
make
make test
make install
