Simple question, simple answer: No.
You need to use the LDAP protocol in order to connect to OpenLDAP
and perform changes in the directory.

If logging [see slapd(8) or slapd.conf(5)} does not do what you want you may 
try playing around with the replogfile used for replication with slurpd [see 
slapd.replog(5)].
