ldap-based vhosts?

I found some commercial module for keeping in LDAP apache/apache-ssl
vhost. It can be found here

However opensource if preferred as always - does anyone heard about
such feature opensourced? :-) Or should I take into consideration
writing it by myself?

If anyone had been using mentioned modul, comments are also welcome :)
Is it worth whatever it's its price?
