Slow on server

For some reason, unknown to me, my OpenLDAP server has taken a 
performance nosedive.
ldapsearches that used to take a short time, now take up to 10 minutes.
From a client, just typing "id <user>", takes an annoying amount of 
time (considering that it used to return an answer almost instantly).

Versions:

OS: Solaris 9
Openldap 2.1.26
Berkeley DB: 4.2.52


Any ideas on where to start looking?
