Orderings: Integer and NumericString

I am looking at the admin guide, and I seem to remember an 
'integerOrderingMatch' was supported. I see that 
'numericStringOrderingMatch' is supported (or at lease listed).

If it ignores spaces, will it order integer syntax items the same as 
integerOrderingMatch? Or is there an actual check in the code to ensure 
the attribute is the proper syntax?
