authentication using windows active server and openldap tools

hello all! Good morning! I would like to ask if anyone tried to authenticate using the users lists in the windows active directory server. Could I use the ldapsearch tool to specify which domain I'm trying to connect to or which password authentication mechanism to use? I'm a bit confused too. I read in the internet about SAMBA. should I use samba in this case?
