OpenLDAP client with SunOne (aka iPlanet) server - works?

I am using ldapsearch against a SunOne server using
Kerberos. However, my GSSAPI authentication against
the server either seems to either fail, or sometimes
crash the server. When it fails, I get this error on
the client:

Invalid Credentials (0x31)
SASL(-13): authentication failure: GSSAPI Error:
Unspecified GSS failure. Minor code may provide more
information (Unknown code 144).

Here's what I see in the server log:

Any ideas? Has anyone made this work successfully?
