ldapadd

Hi,
This might sound a little strange but how does everybody know what to put in
a file to add an entry with ldapadd.
There has got to be some kind of documentation?! When I use the man pages
and the entry from there I get an error message, why? I tried to look at the
schema files, but I'm not sure if that's the place to start.
Therefore, the question is what is neccessary to be in the file in order to
use ldapadd and not get an error message?
