I have integrated LDAP authentification to cocoon (an apache project). I
use ldap queries in xml files, and then I pass them trough a ldap
transformer (a schema that "transform" the xml into ldap commands).
I also made java actions for creating, deleting and editing users and
group from a intranet application.

I am fairly new to LDAP, and I am looking for a definitive HOWTO that 
describes the configuration of an LDAP directory to replace passwd and 
shadow.  I would also like to create home directories without having to 
use useradd.  My ultimate goal is to integrate LDAP authentication with 
Samba.
