OpenLdap and Postgres [is it advisable]

Hello All ,
I am very new to LDAP and the concepts that govern its use, however I am in
the midst of a longterm project that requires it.
This project also requires that i integrate the data stored in the Ldap DB
with other systems/tools. After doing some research i have noticed that it is
possible to use a postgresql backend, hence allowing my cgi and other
applications to retrieve the desired information through standard sql calls.
It seems however, that this creates problems with replication with slave ldap
servers , has anyone found this to be the case ?
Also must i manipulate all data obtained from ldif to be wrapped in SQL ?
There seems to be limited discussion about the use of RDBMS with Openldap , is
it that this is a discouraged practice ?
TIA,
- -Kurt
P.s. I have found the article by Gilles very useful [
