problems using ldapsearch

Hello!

i want to search my 3 openldap servers (2.0.27-4) which have all the
same configuration. only one server is configured to replicate its data
to the other two servers. and the data are all the same on all three
servers if i browse the database with an ldap browser (eg. gq).

i use the follwing client tools:

ldap-utils 2.0.27-4
libldap2 2.0.27-4
libldap2-tls 2.0.27-4
libnet-ldap-perl 0.26-2

if i search for entry's by the cn attribute, i only get answers from one
server, the other two servers doesn't server any results:

ldapsearch -h edvlvsn1 -b "ou=Hosts,dc=knapp,dc=intern" -x "(cn=*)"
version: 2

#
# filter: (cn=*)
# requesting: ALL
#

# search result
search: 2
result: 0 Success

# numResponses: 1

------------------------------------------------------
ldapsearch -h edvlvsn2 -b "ou=Hosts,dc=knapp,dc=intern" -x "(cn=*)"
version: 2

#
# filter: (cn=*)
# requesting: ALL
#

# search result
search: 2
result: 0 Success

# numResponses: 1

------------------------------------------------------
ldapsearch -h edvlvsn3 -b "ou=Hosts,dc=knapp,dc=intern" -x "(cn=*)"
version: 2

#
# filter: (cn=*)
# requesting: ALL
#

# edvlw08.knapp.at, Hosts, knapp, intern
dn: cn=edvlw08.knapp.at,ou=Hosts,dc=knapp,dc=intern
objectClass: top
objectClass: ipHost
objectClass: device
cn: edvlw08.knapp.at
ipHostNumber: 10.17.130.109

# search result
search: 2
result: 0 Success

# numResponses: 2
# numEntries: 1

------------------------------------------------------

BUT: when i apply the filter (cn=**) to the query i got results from
every of the three servers:

ldapsearch -h edvlvsn1 -b "ou=Hosts,dc=knapp,dc=intern" -x "(cn=**)"
version: 2

#
# filter: (cn=**)
# requesting: ALL
#

# edvlw08.knapp.at, Hosts, knapp, intern
dn: cn=edvlw08.knapp.at,ou=Hosts,dc=knapp,dc=intern
objectClass: top
objectClass: ipHost
objectClass: device
cn: edvlw08.knapp.at
ipHostNumber: 10.17.130.109

# search result
search: 2
result: 0 Success

# numResponses: 2
# numEntries: 1

Can anybody give me a hint whats's the problem? Or if i have
misunderstood something?

i played with the indexes in slapd.conf and with slapdindex, but with no
results:

index objectClass pres,eq
index userid,mail pres,eq,sub
index cn,id pres,eq,sub
index maillocaladdress pres,eq
index uidnumber,gidnumber pres,eq

thx, Chris
