Guys, I have discovered the problem. It seems that the Red Hat guys, in their infinite wisdom, have broken openldap into a several RPM's (including a "sever" package). Now that I have all the ancillary RPM's installed I have a working OpenLDAP instance. Thanks to everyone for all your help. Who says that RPM's are easier?????? Tar balls work just fine. Perhaps you have not actually installed the openldap-servers package, and only the "openldap" package? ============================ Darren Gamble Planner, Regional Services Shaw Cablesystems GP 630 - 3rd Avenue SW Calgary, Alberta, Canada T2P 4L4 (403) 781-4948 > -----Original Message----- > From: Thompson, Jimi [mailto:JimiT@mail.cox.smu.edu] > Sent: Wednesday, May 28, 2003 10:16 AM > To: Darren Gamble > Subject: RE: Very Basic Question > > > As you can see, I do not have anything in my init.d that > would appear to > reference openldap. > > [root@box init.d]# ls > aep1000 canna halt keytable nfs random smb > ypbind > anacron crond httpd killall nfslock rawdevices sshd > apmd cups iptables kudzu nscd rhnsd syslog > atd firstboot irda named ntpd saslauthd winbind > autofs functions isdn netfs pcmcia sendmail xfs > bcm5820 gpm kdcrotate network portmap single xinetd > > Thanks, > > Ms. Jimi Thompson > Manager, Web Operations > SMU Cox School of Business > > -----Original Message----- > From: Darren Gamble [mailto:darren.gamble@sjrb.ca] > Sent: Wednesday, May 28, 2003 10:12 AM > To: 'Thompson, Jimi'; 'openldap-software@OpenLDAP.org' > Subject: RE: Very Basic Question > > Good day, > > Please only use plaintext encoding for messages to mailing lists. > > > The file path to the executable that is mentioned on your web site > > is empty and the config files are in /etc/openldap, which also > > appears to be non-standard. > > Red Hat has chosen to install many of the files in different > locations to > make it more consistent with other packages.
