Receiving error 80 when running ldapadd

Title: Receiving error 80 when running ldapadd

This is my first posting to this mailing list so I apologize if I am making any mistakes in how I have submitted my question:

I installed BDB 4.1.25 and OpenLDAP 2.1.17 on an HP Proliant DL380 G3 server
running Red Hat 80 Linux.

I ran the make test command and everything looked fine.  Also, I visually
inspected the LDAP files and they look OK, to.

I then try to run an ldapadd command to populate the top level.  Here is what
happens:

[root@anadts31 root]# ldapadd -f /tmp/newentry
SASL/DIGEST-MD5 authentication started
Please enter your password:
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Internal (implementation specific) error (80)
additional info: SASL(-13): user not found: no secret in database

I enter the root password at the prompt but get the same behavior no matter what
password I enter.

Also, I have modified the slapd.conf file to comment out the password and change
it.  I stop/start slapd everytime I make changes.  No impact.

I noticed that the default rootpw is secret.  Don't know it that's significant
or not.

Thanx for any help you can give me!

Joe Jadick
