Tried eliminating the ldap:/// from the URL list?

On Mandrake 9.x:

[root@enigma sysconfig]# pwd
/etc/sysconfig
[root@enigma sysconfig]# grep -n ldap *
ldap:9:SLAPDURLLIST="ldap:/// ldaps:///"
[root@enigma sysconfig]#

The man page on the -h switch for slapd also has some interesting material 
on this subject.
