The number of file descriptors used is heavily dependent on the number of
concurrent connections by clients to the server. Things tend to get ugly
if slapd runs out.
I run on Solaris, which defaulted to a woefully inadequate number. I
upped my limit to 1024, which runs well in my admittedly smallish
environment of a couple hundred open connections.
