ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49)

hi everybody,
  I installed openldap-2.1.17 with bdb-4.1.25.
My problem is when I use to add  entries using ldapadd
command it is giving something like
ldap_bind: Invalid credentials(49) !

I checked slapd and sure that it is listening at
port-389.
So please give me suggestions.
