Quanah,
I've been working on a synchronization protocol based replication engine
which is lightweight and state-based.
Because the last replication status is maintained in the slave, it is
possible to
request only those updates took place at the master after the point in time
the slave replication status represents.
It is targetted for the next 2.2 version branching.
