with NetBSD OS we can directly authentify with ldap without using PAM
in the nsswicth, we simply add "ldap" in the authentification methods list.
(check it is really possible. but i remember having read it somewhere - i
didn't tried it yet because i haven't enough time for it)
maybe you'll can do something like it with a linux.
Else try BSD :-) http://www.netbsd.org or http://www.openbsd.org
An other ugly way is refresh /etc/passwd using this method :
http://csociety.ecn.purdue.edu/projects/ldap.html (an ugly hack, a
croned Perl script to refresh /etc/passwd from LDAP)
