Newbie: can't populate LDAP database
Hi All.
I've just installed OpenLDAP 2.1.16 on Solaris 9 box.
Edited slapd.conf and started daemon.
Launching the command ldapsearch I can see lines
er:updater# ldapsearch -x -b '' -s base '(objectclass=*)' namingContexts
# extended LDIF
#
# LDAPv3
# base <> with scope base
# filter: (objectclass=*)
# requesting: namingContexts
#
#
dn:
namingContexts: dc=orcsoftware,dc=com
# search result
search: 2
result: 0 Success
# numResponses: 2
# numEntries: 1
which, I guess, means that slapd is up and running.
Trying to add entry in LDAP database with ldapadd command I can see lines
er:updater# ldapadd -x -D "cn=Manager,dc=orcsoftware,dc=com" -W -f
test2.ldif
Enter LDAP Password:
adding new entry "cn=Barbara J Jensen,dc=orcsoftware,dc=com"
ldapadd: update failed: cn=Barbara J Jensen,dc=orcsoftware,dc=com
ldap_add: No such object (32)
er:updater# cat test2.ldif
dn: cn=Barbara J Jensen,dc=orcsoftware,dc=com
cn: Barbara J Jensen
cn: Babs Jensen
objectClass: person
sn: Jensen
Have different error codes with more complex entry, like this
er:updater# ldapadd -x -D "cn=Manager,dc=orcsoftware,dc=com" -W -f erik
Enter LDAP Password:
adding new entry "uid=erik,ou=People,dc=orcsoftware,dc=com"
ldapadd: update failed: uid=erik,ou=People,dc=orcsoftware,dc=com
ldap_add: Object class violation (65)
additional info: invalid structural object class chain
(inetOrgPerson/ac
count)
er:updater# cat erik
dn: uid=erik,ou=People,dc=orcsoftware,dc=com
uid: erik
cn: erik heimdahl
givenName: erik
sn: heimdahl
objectClass: person
objectClass: organizationalPerson
objectClass: inetOrgPerson
objectClass: account
objectClass: posixAccount
objectClass: top
userPassword: {crypt}XXX
loginShell: /bin/tcsh
uidNumber: 100
gidNumber: 410
homeDirectory: /home/erik
gecos: erik heimdahl
My slapd.conf file looks like this
er:updater# cat /usr/local/etc/openldap/slapd.conf
# $OpenLDAP: pkg/ldap/servers/slapd/slapd.conf,v 1.23.2.6 2003/02/26

# Disallow clear text exchange of passwords
# disallow bind_simple_unprotected
#
# Require integrity protection (prevent hijacking)
# Require 112-bit (3DES or better) encryption for updates

# Sample access control policy:
# Root DSE: allow anyone to read it
# Subschema (sub)entry DSE: allow anyone to read it
# Other DSEs:
# Allow self write access
# Allow authenticated users read access
# Allow anonymous users to authenticate
# Directives needed to implement policy:
# access to dn.base="" by * read
# access to dn.base="cn=Subschema" by * read
# access to *
# by self write
# by users read
# by anonymous auth
#
# if no access controls are present, the default policy is:
# Allow read by all
#
# rootdn can always write!
