RE: simple Authentication

I'm not sure what you mean I haven't specifically created any ACL's. If I
include a complete dn in an ldapsearch I always get an ivalid credentials
error and if I ommit the first part of the dn I get the Inappropriate
authentication error.

What does your ACL's look like, and your ldapsearch-command?

It should be something like

ldapsearch -x -D <complete DN to object> -W
