You'll need the entire encrypted string, obviously. :^)
The FAQ covers password hashes, including how they're used and how to
generate them.

Also, make sure your server was compiled with support for whatever password
format you need. It sounds like you'll need CRYPT, which is deprecated and
not compiled in by default, I believe, although it's still supported.
