* not working in search

Anyone know why this doesn't work:

ldapsearch -LLL "(aptMailDeliver=t*)"

but this does:

ldapsearch -LLL "(aptMailDeliver=test)"

I used 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.26 for the string syntax.  Does that 
matter for searching?
