OpenLDAP is supposed to have modifyTimestamp in it by default :

Taken from the man page :

 lastmod on | off
              Controls whether slapd will automatically  maintain
              the  modifiersName,  modifyTimestamp, creatorsName,
              and createTimestamp  attributes  for  entries.   By
              default, lastmod is on.

But I could never get it working even if I put "lastmod on" in my slapd.conf 
file.

I think you may have to manually put modifiersName, modifyTimestamp, 
creatorsName and createTimestamp in the record for the user before it will be 
used - I think this is stupid if, I think that you should just put turn it on 
and it does everything for you!
