First, upgrade to openldap 2.0.25 If it turns out to be a problem with
OpenLDAP itself, you're not going to get much help running an old
version.
If it continues, you might check into increasing slapd's log level (man
slapd.conf, see 'loglevel').
Go to the auth_ldap web site (http://www.rudedog.org/auth_ldap/), read
the mailing list archives. If you don't find anything there, subscribe
to the auth_ldap mailing list and ask there too.
There are many different auth_ldap directives (see the docs:
http://www.rudedog.org/auth_ldap/1.6/auth_ldap.html) related to caching
and what not. Those might helpful.
