Unable to login to local LDAP server

I am running openldap on a RedHat 7.2 Alpha CPU system. The version I am
using is default for the distribution. At present when I attempt to
login locally to the machine I get the following message flashed on the
screen for a second:

"Error in service module"

Does anyone know if its a package problem or configuration? I have other
issues with my first attempt at openldap but this is a major one that
prevents me from logging into the machine in any mode other than single
user.
