chase referral automaticaly

I'm using openldap-2.0.23

I've a big ldif file, with thousand entries.
I use referrals.
I know two way to populate the database :

1 : turning on the slapd daemon and make a
ldappadd -x -D "cn=admin,o=ent,c=fr" -W -f /home/x/people.ldif
It takes a very long time... and, each time there is a referral, the ldapadd stop and give a message to tell me to referre to serv_x. 

2 : turning off the slapd daemon and make a

slapadd -f /usr/local/etc/openldap/slapd.conf -l /home/x/people.ldif
With this way i don't automaticaly chase referral too.

Do you know an other way to populate quicqly my database and chase atomaticaly referrals?
