LDAP not atuthenticating with password encrypted with {CRYPT} and salt 12

Hi all,

We are using openldap 2.0.22 on our local machines with Redhat 7.2 in a web
based project.
We have built openldap from source.
Openldap can authorize with passwords like
{crypt}$1$95251623$B59UDFLJoLzvekHwumwNE1
(crypt with salt 12)
We have moved our project to Redhat 6.2 and now the authentication is not
working anymore.
If we change our passwords to simple crypt than  it is working.

What could be wrong?
