approx index in openldap 2.x

Hello,

As I understand it, from reviewing list archives, the approx index
feature is not functional in openldap 2.x.  Does anyone know if this
feature will be available in a future release?  Or does it fall into
the too-difficult-or-painful to implement category, so it probably
won't happen?

Thanks for any info you can provide!  Also, thanks for help in the 
past...this list is great.
