slapd threads and processes...
Hi,
I have just migrated from iPlanet Directory Server to OpenLDAP 2 and
everything seemed to be going very well.... however... I seem to be using loads of processes, and not dropping connections.
I am aware that there is a master slapd process that creates more threads as
they are needed, but when I reached the maximum number of threads I allowed (100), slapd just grinds to a halt.
Could it be that I am not dropping connections? I have about 86 connections with TIME_WAIT when I do a netstat -a.
I have the info in my slapd.conf :
threads 100
idletimeout 300
Here is a section of what is output when I do a ps -auwxf | grep slapd
root 13044 0.0 1.9 72012 20244 ? S 15:21 0:00
/usr/lib/openldap/slapd
root 13045 0.0 1.9 72012 20244 ? S 15:21 0:00 \_
/usr/lib/openldap/slapd
root 13046 0.1 1.9 72012 20244 ? S 15:21 0:01 \_
/usr/lib/openldap/slapd
root 13051 4.5 1.9 72012 20244 ? S 15:21 0:33 \_

root 13052 1.9 1.9 72012 20244 ? S 15:21 0:14 \_

root 13096 2.1 1.9 72012 20244 ? S 15:21 0:15 \_
/usr/lib/openldap/slapd
Most of my clients are Netscape address books, and searching for users seems
to be much slower too.
Please can anyone suggest anything to help me!
