You would want to install atleast the following packets
on a client machine
nss_ldap - to get owner/group <-> uid/gid mappings and other name
service lookups
auth_ldap - to get the PAM modules to login
Then you need to run /usr/sbin/authconfig to configure your LDAP host
and base DN of your directory.
