Organization and attributes like email, id etc.

Hi!

I browsed the archives but did not find a solution
that works - I must be missing something. 

I'm in the process of adding customers (organizations)
to the directory. Now these entities are not People
but do have an email address and I want to assign them
a unique ID. How do I configure this?
