The best Java SDK and JRE out there for most distributions (that works equally
well regardless of glibc minor versions) is the IBM Java distribution. Check
out http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/ for general details on IBM's
developerworks program, and
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/index.html for developer kits
for all sorts of OS's.
