that is when i add a referral as an entry to the database will the referral
url be returned when i search for that particular entry?
->yes, but don't forget that it is the client who has to handle it. Check
your client library help for the appropriate settings.

can i use referals such that when a search for an entry under a particular
node of the tree fails i am returned the referral?

what is the significance of the referral value in the slapd.conf file?
