Anyone using LDAP for application security?

I'm curious if anyone has implemented thier own application's security inside
LDAP.  Particularly, I'm interested if you secured access to screens, web
pages, transactions, and other application functionality inside LDAP.

If so, how did you install your application's security requirements?  Did you
make schema changes?  Did you use Groups?  Roles?  ldap_compare()?
ldap_search()?  How did you bind for username/password security?  Stuff like
that.
