Re: LDAP on FreeBSD 4.2 installation problem

Hi Michael,

If I were you I'd update your ports collection (see the FreeBSD
handbook), or install the "openldap2" package with "pkg_add
/path/to/pkg/you/downloaded/openldap2-2.0.11.tgz" ....
See www.freebsd.org/ports to search for the openldap2 package.

You'll find it much easier to update and compile openldap2 on FreeBSD
if you use the ports or the package system!

Once it's installed you'll find key files in the following locations:

- The startup script called slapd.sh.sample in /usr/local/etc/rc.d
(rename it to slapd.sh to have slapd start on bootup)
- The schema, and configuration files in /usr/local/etc/openldap

"Extra" programs added to your system in FreeBSD tend to be located
somewhere in /usr/local, so it's always a good place to start looking
for a newly installed port/package.

Hope this helps....

Subject: LDAP on FreeBSD 4.2 installation problem

To all,
Hi, I am new to the list and especially a newbie in the LDAP
world. I am having some trouble setting up LDAP with my FreeBSD 4.2
unix server. I have downloaded the source code for openldap-2.0.11
and ran all the following commands for the install:
1. ./configure --enable-ldap
2. make depend
3. make
4. make test
5. sh root -c make install

When all is said and done. I have yet to find the openldap files now
installed supposedly on the unix box. I have used all default
settings other then the --enale-ldap... which I believe should put the
files into /usr/local/openldap. Upong going there, I see nothing!!..
where can these files go? or can I have the files installed in another
directory?? I've looked through the ./configure --help file and tried
running the config with:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local --bindir=/usr/local/bin --sbindir=/usr
/local/sbin --datadir=/usr/local/data --srcdir/usr/src/openldap-2.0.11
 --x-libraries=/usr/lib --x-includes=/usr/include
I can't find the installed files anywhere on my system manually.. what
is the search context to find a particular file in Unix? 'find' ??
Hope this is a detailed enough explanation of my problem.

Any suggestions please are greatly appreciated in advance!!
Thank you,
