Sure. Try OpenLDAP's back-ldap proxy backend for slapd.
You should consider using a snapshot from their cvs as
the currently distributed version, OpenLDAP 2.0, has a couple
of bugs that have been fixed, but only the next release (coming
soon) will contain the fixes.

There is little documentation on how to use the proxying stuff;
however, all you need to know about generic configuration issues
is in http://www.OpenLDAP.org/doc/admin/, and there are some
specific notes in http://www.openldap.org/faq/data/cache/532.html

Shortly, new features will be added, so stay in tune. You may
