cannot find log messages

Hi,

I set heavy debugging option 
loglevel -1
in slapd.conf before the include line,
but no log messages appear in syslogs,
either at LDAP start or when ldapsearching.
The syslogs are /var/log/syslog, /var/adm/messages on Solaris 8.
