The answer to this question is not simple as there are numeorus
mechanisms and numerous options.  You can browse the archives
where use of SASL is discussed.  You should also read the
Cyrus SASL documentation, in particular the sysadmin.html
file contained in their doc directory.  You should also verify
the desired mechanisms are working correctly by testing them
with the Cyrus provided sample client and server.
