I have replaced SunDir 1.0 with OpenLDAP 2.0.7
and it works with SIMS now for 1 1/2 month without problems.

Only one thing: SIMS authenticates via a password ldap_compare
There is an SIMS IMS Option ( found at "SunSolve" ) where
you can switch to ldap_bind  instead for authentication of the
IMPA and POP Users.
